Your new role
As a Senior Technician Histology, you will be part of the Histology and Imaging group which supports all preclinical and nonclinical studies within the organization by providing sample preparation, staining, and microscopy and imaging analysis.
You will be working in the lab 100% of the time. During this time, you will troubleshoot protocols for histological staining and performance of equipment. You will also improve histology workflows. On a daily basis, you will also carry out the preparations of frozen and FFPE specimens including embedding, section cutting and routine staining. You will operate an autostainer (Leica Bond) and a whole slide scanner and you will monitor tissue and staining quality in slides. On top of this, you will perform chromogenic and fluorescent IHC and you will prepare documentation and reports on your work.
You will be working on both pre-clinical and non-clinical studies and all tissues you will be working with are animal related. The group works on a variety of animals (rodents, monkeys, mini pigs, rats and more) that each require their own specific treatment. The samples you will be working on also vary, from brains to kidneys and many more.
In order to be successful as a Senior Technician Histology, it’s important that you already have solid histology experience (2-5 years ideally) in an industry setting. If you have experience in an academic setting, this can also work if you have experience in serving multiple departments and ideally working with different kinds of samples/animals. For this role, the hiring manager will consider both people with MLO, Bachelor and Master backgrounds. It’s really your way of working and your personality that will make the difference!
You will need to have hands-on experience with sample preparation (cells, organs), sample fixation and you have a professional level in sectioning. You also have hands-on experience with a chromogenic and fluorescent IHC, ISH and its troubleshooting. If you already have experience with an autostainer (such as Leica Bond), this is a plus but not mandatory, the team would be happy to teach you. If you have experience with LIMS (laborator information management systems) this will also be considered a plus.
English is mandatory for this position, Dutch is not. As a person, you are able to act in a fast changing and demanding environment. You are willing and able to demonstrate a hands-on attitude. You can work independently and like troubleshooting. Finally, you know how to document results accurately and you are focused on output. If you recognize yourself and you are ready for the next step in histology, please apply today!
